Today, young people are turning to entrepreneurship to overcome a tough economy, and in the process, creating new businesses and new jobs. Now is the time to support this movement.

How To Become An Entrepreneur: Start talking about your business idea. If your listeners are interested then your idea could turn into a business. Thanks To: Alexandra Mayzler of Thinking Caps Tutoring keep talking and pay attention
How To Become An Entrepreneur: To become an entrepreneur, train yourself to be self-disciplined and intrinsically motivated.
How To Become An Entrepreneur: Someone who wants to become an entrepreneur should research, research, research their competition tirelessly from all aspects before deciding to move forward — and then come up with how to differentiate yourself. There’s room for everyone — but you have to know what you’ll be up against first! Thanks To: Melanie Heywood of Listasaurus.com
How To Become An Entrepreneur: Someone who wants to become an entrepreneur should identify at least 5 business people in the same or similar industry that they are considering.   Pick their brain.  Ask them what lead to their success, what surprised them along the way and what they would do differently.  Choose one that you have the best rapport with, is successful  but has made a lot of mistakes – then ask if they would consider being your mentor.
You should know your weaknesses.

Attention!!!, entrepreneurs in the making! Before we get started, let’s get one thing straight – YOU ARE BORN WITH IT. Passion, thirst, risk-taking, innovation, intelligence, and so many other variables that make up a successful entrepreneur, cannot be taught. They are either in your genes or not. Sorry but that is the brutal, God-honest, truth.

LET ME START WITH A FEW HARD TRUTHS OF BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR:
1. it’s stressful. If you think meeting a boss’s deadlines or demands is tough, try meeting your own, especially when your personal savings are on the line. Maybe you’ve already taken out a second mortgage and your credit cards are maxxed out. Or maybe you’ve borrowed money from family and friends and you’re on the hook to pay them back, ASAP
2. It’s never-ending. Yes, it can be thankless to work for someone else, knowing your skills and talents are ultimately making someone else a bundle. But in most jobs, you can leave the work behind when you go home to enjoy your family, friends or hobbies. As an entrepreneur, the workload can be intense, especially during the early stages when you are the CEO, CFO, HR person, sales staff, marketing guru, tech guy, office manager, and janitor. With all these roles, there’s rarely a moment that you feel your work is “done” for the day. There’s always something more you could be doing, like researching new markets, writing press releases, contacting new media, cold calling new sales outlets, developing new products and the list goes on. And that can eat away at time formerly devoted to family, leisure activities, workouts or relaxation. It’s a difficult balance to strike.
3. It’s frustrating. Maybe you’ve partnered with someone who doesn’t have your best interests at heart. Or you’ve received a shipment of damaged products that you need for a trade show the next day. Or the media appearance you spent days preparing for is suddenly cancelled due to a natural disaster. As an entrepreneur, these types of situations happen on a regular basis. (I speak from experience; all of the above happened to me.)

So with this kind of stress, pressure and workload, why, then, would anyone subject themselves to being an entrepreneur? The answer is simple: the positives outweigh the negatives:
1. It’s rewarding. When you’re successful, you reap both financial and emotional rewards. There’s no better feeling than seeing a product you’ve worked hard to develop on store shelves, or when you’ve provided successful service for a grateful client.
2. It’s flexible. Once you work for yourself, it’s common to feel you could never work in a conventional 9-to-5 environment again. I believe it’s mostly due to the flexibility. Yes, you may work more hours, but you can do so on your own terms.
3. It’s the chance to create. Many entrepreneurs are driven by the need to build something great, help other people, or leave something behind. Perhaps it’s a business that your children can join and grow; maybe it’s the legacy of creating something that will be around long after you’re gone.
You first implementation might be wrong, not because youre not smart not doing the right things, or some other reason to come down hard on yourself. As it turns out, this is actually a good sign.
You Will Make Less Than Normal Wages For A While
If you got into entrepreneurship first and foremost for the money, then you are in the wrong business. Sure you may one day sell your company, but that day is probably far far away.
Everything Takes Twice As Long…If It Even Happens
Multiply everything by two, including the things inside of your control. When things take longer, you sometimes think that you’re doing it wrong or no one really cares. In reality, everyone else has multiple deals and responsibilities on the table. By factoring this into the expectations of your startup, it makes a lot easier to prepare for launching products, closing deals, and more. Also, be persistent and get the other party what they need as soon as possible.
Customers will frustrate you
You Can’t Do It All Yourself
Some entrepreneurs have a superhero complex that they feel they can do everything themselves or with just one co-founder. They think that it’s possible to scale the company with just two to three people. This just results in being overworked and unfocused. Know when to let go of your pride and bring in people that are often smarter than you are.
There Is No Such Thing As An Overnight Success
In some cases you may be able to find out that your idea just won’t work or that you are one of the lucky few that get acquired early on. Other than that, be prepared to work on your start up for many many years. The press often makes it seem as if success happened overnight, but the entrepreneurs themselves spent a lot of time with the company over the course of many years. Start ups aren’t a 5k, but an all out iron man competition.

ON A FINAL NOTE:
When a painter begins their masterpiece, they are looking at a blank slate. When a sculptor begins their masterpiece, they are looking at a lump of clay. What separates the master painter and master sculptor from the rest of the crowd is that they see opportunity from that blank slate or lump of clay. When an entrepreneur envisions their masterpiece, they are looking at nothing other than opportunity. That is the same opportunity that the master painter or sculptor sees.
If you do what everyone else has done, you will have what everyone else has. It is entrepreneurs who are willing to do what no one else is willing to do so they can have what no one else has. They are willing to give up immediate gratification for long-term fulfillment. They don’t mind working long nights and weekends because they believe that those long hours will be worth it in the end. It is that belief that drives them to do what they do in the face of fear, uncertainty and doubt. Therefore, when they persist on, they do end up creating a masterpiece.

I therefore dedicate this to all Batch B 2011/12 corps members who are good to go, don’t wait for another year, start now… there is room for everyone but the big thinker stands out!!!

Are you where you thought you would be?

Are you where you thought you would be at this point in your life?

I have been asked this question over and over again and every time the answer changes. The answer changes because I am always changing. Where you want to be in your life and where you think you will actually be are 2 very different things. As children we all wanted to be rich and famous and well-known (well most of us-maybe not all). But realistically we knew this was not going to be the case.

I can honestly say I never had a clear picture of what I thought my life would be like at this point.

I am the type of person that wants to learn and experience so much that I am unable to think of a life only one certain way. It would actually be almost impossible to picture my life at a future time. I will always have goals and dreams and I do hope some of these come into fruition but I don’t rely on these things to shape my life to define me.

I believe I am undefinable. I would have never guessed that I would be working in an IT firm or even be a fashion designer or at most surprising be a writer. I want to pursue a degree in human resource management or project management, I will eat my words with saying this and probably catch a lot of hell, but I am unsure of exactly how I want to use this degree and i definitely will go to fashion school. When I first started with this it was never my intention to make a name out of this but over the past year I have dove a lot into art and even learning how to sew and more on design techniques. people recommend, request and call me for different projects i don’t even have any idea about, its so sweet to know that few people believe in me and that as earlier planned am a role model to a few and still in-charge of my little tittle “FIRST CHILD”

OK, now back to the topic at hand…Am I where I thought I would be at this point in my life? As stated, I never saw my life in a certain way. if going by my initial plan, i should still be in school studying medicine, but going by the later plan, well what can i say Alhamdulilah. The only thing that is most important in my life (and I hope it is in everyone else’s – even through the hard times) is happiness. The thing about that though that I needed to change was realizing that happiness is a journey and not a destination. I still have to remind myself of that all of the time because I am always looking for an end…and while looking for that end I am missing the incredible journey I am on in this very moment. It has taken me a really long time to get to this point.

I am at a crucial point in my life where things are starting to make sense and I am feeling more in tune with who I am than I ever have. I still have a hard time accepting things and I do not always stand up for myself and I dislike confrontation in any form but I am learning. I am accepting what is right now. I am learning that I am beyond lucky for the things that I have in my life. I go through phases of loneliness and anxiety but I never stop forgetting that they are only moments and the world is too big of a place to get stuck in one small rut. I am slowly starting to talk more about who I really am and face fears that I had been ignoring for a long time. I am bringing what is on the inside out and the journey is absolutely breathtaking.

So i am not there yet, a lot of things have gone out of place, a lot in place and a lot too arranged am over whelmed but i am grateful and happy to be where i am because it is so promising and with you all by my side encouraging me.. i will get there!

ARE YOU THERE YET? and if not, where would you be in 5years?

TODAY IN HISTORY

Am one of the happiest breed on earth today, well i have been for over a week now, the act of writing even made me a more fulfilled person. I cannot begin to emphasize on the things that are filling my long broken hearts but am sure a lot of you my readers would have noticed in my last few posts.

I am HAPPY… for the first time in a while I can truly say that and am, forever grateful to God.

Today in history(22-05-10), history was M’ADE,  a talent was M’ADE, ideas were M’ADE, a decision was M’ADE and if that day or days after or even months after someone (even my mum) told me it was going to be M’ADE then i would have given the dis-believe look.

As a child I have always had encouragements and drives, I am the all knowing breed, who was interested in many things and today it has not stopped.

Wondering what am talking about? well am talking about a grace that was sent upon me through my very own organization “AIESEC” (DRUM ROLLS), FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES AND FAMILY. it was first to be a team leader and then i discovered my weakness of talking too much, i wasn’t condemned but embraced to turn my talkativeness into speaking for a cause, and to speak for a cause, you have to know what you are talking about so i developed myself to finding out things which brought about the researcher in me.

why do i care so much? well, that was ordained from the day i was m’ade. being the first from both my parents who are firsts from both their parents has given me about 40cousins whom i have cared and still care for.  I knew i always did a good job if every weekend their parents came to dump them in my house :D.

I can remember telling my mum at 18 that i want my own kids (lmao) but really since i cant have my own kids yet, i decided i will care for kids that cant have their own parents yet. I will go states to states and town to town just to spend days with the motherless, prepare projects that will care for the needy. even though many i didn’t spend my money or time on but at least my ideas would drive people to do something.

This went on for few months when i was given a task to come up with an agenda for “AIESEC DINNER”. it was tough but then we came up with a very good one, there was no designer available for the fashion show we included then someone came up with the idea that i have beautiful set of clothes and since most of my friends copy my style, we could just style models and make it a style show instead. i was proud to tell them that 95% of my clothes were designed by me, it was a shock when after the event about 20people wanted me to design their next dinner gowns, i couldn’t disagree.

I thank you all from that moment that even though i didn’t sew the clothes myself, you supported me, you encouraged me, you gave me extra pays just to believe in myself, i thank all the organizations that helps with my projects. i thank all my customers and clients, i thank those that joined along the way(I THANK THOSE THAT LEFT), i thank all my mentors. I thank my mum and i thank God for never letting me down, ( i am actually crying in my office right now).

Today, I am only 21years old and 363days old but I am a researcher, an event planner (minor), stylist, A fashion designer, A writer, A mother(LOL aunty)  to many kids,  A mentor, A project executor and yes you can call me an OLIVER TWIST or even as my best fan would say GIFTED HANDS but I’ll rather be called M’ADE , reason being God made me and left nothing undone just like he made you and blessed you even more.

22-05-10 hopefully we can all celebrate 20years and more down the road. GRACIAS !!!

whatever you are doing now, please make sure its for a good cause, because where words go, legs don’t ever get.
